Is rationality worn out?
Our culture has been fueled by rationality for years. Like the
fossil fuel that powers our vehicles, though, disadvantages
are overshadowing benefits. How many problems that defy reason
do we need to witness before we realize we need better methods?
Whether its business decisions, or family crises, rationality
is wearing out. We need to tap our unconscious and cultivate
our own internal alternative fuels to blend with the abundant
rational fuel that powers us today.
In my 19 years of consulting, clients have been quick to identify
solutions. The challenge is implementing the decisions that
those solutions require. There is a gaping hole in the skill
set of leaders. Enter Unrational Leadership™, a process
that knowingly employs both rational and irrational methods
for achieving desired outcomes.
The principles of Unrational Leadership™ dovetail perfectly
with the reigning principles of organizational leadership. They
are ideal companions, for instance, to the rationalism of Stephen
Covey's, Seven Habits of Highly Effective People.
Unrational Leadership™ is effective because it embraces
the unconscious, an incredible source of energy, ideas, and
spirit. The key is to recognize these feelings and behaviors,
and assimilate them into our decision and leadership processes.
As you learn about Unrational Leadership™, the solid ground
of reason may move beneath your feet a bit. This is normal and
expected. In fact, when you're on the path to discoveries that
defy reason, those feelings will lead to answers more powerful
than you know.
